專長：Maureen Rooney is currently an English Language Fellow, a program with the U.S. Department of State, living and working in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. English Language Fellows are experienced TESOL professionals who work internationally to promote English language learning and mutual understanding through cultural connections. As a fellow, Maureen is collaborating with National Sun Yet-sen University (NSYSU) and Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) to enhance their EMI programs. Prior to this, Maureen was an English Speaking Nation Coach in Uzbekistan, working with the Ministry of Education to improve teaching of English throughout the country. Maureen was an associate professor in the Modern Languages Department at the University of Rhode Island as well as a writing specialist at the Graduate Writing Center. She was an English Language Fellow with the Secretariat of Education in México, where she worked closely with the government to enhance the English program in the region. Maureen focuses on helping professors and educators create more student centered classrooms, incorporating project based learning and soft skills such as creative thinking, collaboration, and critical thinking, into the daily lessons. She also redesigns curriculum to include these aspects. Maureen holds a Master’s in Education/TESOL from Rhode Island College and a Master’s in Spanish from Middlebury College. She has a BA in European Studies from Scripps College, one of the Claremont Colleges. Maureen was twice awarded Teacher of the Year in Rhode Island while teaching ESL students in Rhodes Island. Maureen also redesigned teacher education programs in Rhode Island and has been working in education for 30 years.
