Center Introduction

Origin

In order to respond to and support the government's active promotion of bilingual education policies, cultivate outstanding bilingual talents, and bring the world to Taiwan, National Sun Yat-sen University plans and promotes the school's all-English and all-English general courses, and coordinates various units to handle related teaching matters. After careful evaluation of the school's unique environment, high-quality teacher lineup and strong administrative team, it is indeed feasible. The West Bay College All-English Teaching Excellence Center was officially established in the first semester of the 2011 academic year.

PurposeT

The West Bay College All-English Teaching Excellence Center aims to provide students with high-quality general education learning experience, support teachers in achieving excellent and innovative teaching, assist teachers in achieving established teaching goals, and strengthen partnerships among various units within the school to create a vibrant, A learning environment and experience that combines knowledge with learning.

Teaching objectives

Establish a natural, diverse, and inclusive all-English teaching and learning environment.
Strengthen students' academic knowledge and literacy, and improve their English ability and communication skills.
Assist teachers to improve their teaching and promote the sharing of teaching concepts, innovations, strategies and resources among teachers to improve student learning effects.
Establish a flexible, knowledgeable and vigorous teacher-student community and a teacher-student knowledge exchange platform to improve students' learning interest and effectiveness, and provide quality services to students, universities and communities.

Organization

All-English General Education Elite Course

Introduction

West Bay College's all-English general education elite program is designed for students who love learning, reading, taking risks and challenging traditions. This course is designed for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. In this program, students will study interdisciplinary issues and inquiry methods while developing and enhancing their reading, writing, science, analysis, critical thinking and communication skills. Through the internship field, you can develop your English communication skills, enhance your international outlook and pre-employment practical experience, and establish an international network of contacts. Finally, students will integrate what they have learned and present with confidence and professionalism.

Academic Process

1. Core courses (16 credits in total)
Courses include cross-department electives (9 credits required), Six Dimensions of Liberal Arts (6 credits elective), and service learning (1 credit required).

2. Students are required to participate in the presentation of learning results of each course in accordance with the regulations of each course, to share practical skills and experience in academic research and creative activities, and to connect students’ experiential learning with academic, career and community service fields.
3. Complete service learning, use foreign language communication skills in the workplace, enhance international outlook and pre-employment practical experience, and establish an international network of contacts.

Petition form

Freshmen from the all-English specialized classes in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Department of Chemistry and other departments.
Applicants from other departments (or transfer students from other schools) whose English proficiency is above average (inclusive).

Misson

1、To promote all-English curriculum planning and strategies

2、To establish a diverse, innovative, flexible and knowledgeable English teaching and learning environment

3、Improve students' English skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing；

Strengthen students' academic knowledge and literacy；

Enhance students' workplace communication skills, competitiveness and international outlook.

Instruction

1、15 credits for core courses: 6 credits for required courses and 9 credits for elective courses.

2、Admission Criteria: Undergraduate and graduate students whose English proficiency is intermediate (inclusive) or above.

Note: Among the courses taken by students in the elective program, there should be at least 6 credits of courses that are not part of the student’s major, double major, or minor department.
