【教發中心提供】National Sun Yat-sen University is committed to advancing towards the goal of becoming a "2030 All-English University" and has recently been approved by the Ministry of Education as a "Key Cultivation Bilingual University." In August of this year, the university established the Office for Promoting Campus Bilingual Learning Projects, which will simultaneously develop bilingual programs for students, teachers, and regional universities. President Zheng Ying-yao of Sun Yat-sen University emphasized that the university currently has more than 200 sister schools. Leveraging the power of international cooperation with sister schools, teachers, and students can enhance their international competitiveness. In the future, the university will continue to integrate the energy of regional universities in the southern region to align with the central government's "2030 Bilingual Nation" policy and connect with the international community to create various learning possibilities at Sun Yat-sen University. Vice President for Academic Affairs Lin Bo-chiao stated that students and teachers are supported jointly by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Si Wan College English Excellence Teaching Center, and various colleges, while regional universities are coordinated by the Southern Regional Bilingual Education Resource Center, advancing towards becoming a bilingual university from all aspects. Through resource sharing among regional universities and inter-school cooperation to increase faculty and curriculum, the implementation of bilingual policies will be strengthened.

In addition to the development of bilingual teaching courses, in terms of student learning, the departments of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Chemistry at the undergraduate level have opened the first all-English classes. Furthermore, the "English Table" activity, aimed at training English speaking skills, has been introduced to the campus. Dozens of foreign students from countries such as the United States and Spain are invited to serve as table leaders on a rotating basis. Through weekly conversations on different topics, students' daily English conversational abilities are promoted, enhancing the close relationship between local and foreign students. To date, the activity has attracted more than a hundred students from different majors to participate. The themes of the English Table activity are relaxed and interesting, covering topics such as "The British Museum: Cultural Defender or Artifact Thief?" "Learning English through Art and Architecture," and "How to Improve English Communication Skills." Through interactive games integrated into English teaching, students experience international cultural exchanges on campus. Lin Bo-chiao, Vice President for Academic Affairs at Sun Yat-sen University, hopes that Sun Yat-sen students can not only learn professional knowledge but also accumulate bilingual abilities step by step through interaction and communication with peers. In the future, the university will continue to focus on English learning and establish a diverse and internationally competitive teaching support system.

Regarding the development of teacher teaching skills, in order to enhance teachers' bilingual teaching abilities, four teacher community events have been organized in conjunction with the online course "Certificate in EMI Skills" from the University of Cambridge. Assistant Professors Chao Keqing from Si Wan College, Lin Yu-ya from the Department of Chemistry, Associate Professor Shi Zhimin from the Department of Foreign Languages, Professor Hsu Shu-ying from the Department of Foreign Languages, Assistant Professor Chen Ruihua from Si Wan College, and Professor Li Xianglan from Si Wan College served as keynote speakers. Lin Yu-ya pointed out that special consideration should be given to how students absorb knowledge in all-English teaching. Whether it is teachers or students, it is important to accurately use English to communicate and describe things in the classroom. In addition, as one of the member schools of OSUN (Open Society University Network), Sun Yat-sen University collaborates with Arizona State University in the United States to offer EMI teacher training courses, actively arranging more overseas teaching resources to provide teachers with channels for improving bilingual teaching.

To establish a quality assurance mechanism for all-English courses, Sun Yat-sen University has proposed adding items to the end-of-course "Teaching Opinion Survey" and "Student Learning Effectiveness Questionnaire" for all-English courses. These items focus on aspects such as teacher-student interaction, teaching strategies and activities, learning assessment, students' understanding of course content, cross-cultural competence, and future academic or career development. For all-English courses, a midterm questionnaire survey will also be conducted, and the results will be provided to the course instructors as a reference for teaching improvement.

In terms of regional resource integration, the Southern Regional Bilingual Education Resource Center has recently convened National Kaohsiung Normal University, National Kaohsiung University, Kaohsiung Medical University, I-Shou University, National Pingtung University, and National Taitung University to discuss the promotion of higher education EMI and explore cooperation models for mutual benefit and exchange. Starting from January 2023, a cross-campus teacher community for all-English teaching will be established to jointly enhance teachers' English teaching levels.
