Since the 110th academic year, the General English courses have undergone significant reforms, aligning comprehensively with the CEFR standards in terms of textbook selection, course objectives, curriculum design, and learning outcome assessments. Students are placed into different levels based on their entrance academic ability test scores or designated English examination results, with courses categorized into basic, intermediate, high-intermediate, and advanced levels. The course objectives at each level are designed to progressively enhance students' language abilities, supplemented by extracurricular English practice activities organized by the Center for Excellence in English-Medium Instruction. This approach allows students to start with courses that match their English proficiency and gradually advance to the CEFR B2 level, facilitating a smooth transition into specialized EMI courses within their departments.
